The third month of the fifth year ends today.
Guests scatter; feasters' mats are empty;
Left alone, I shut the door.
Sickness is now Lo-t'ien's inseparable companion.
In spring I let Fan So go home.
I listen idly to the nightingale's talk.
Time passes; I stand motionless;
Thoughts fly here and there
As willow blossoms drifting in the wind.
My golden sash hangs about my waist;
My gown trails the earth.
Year after year I grow emaciated;
All my clothes hang loose.
